#62 - Pray When It's Real | James 5:16 | Pray Like It Matters
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Freedom begins where honesty starts. In this episode of The Daily Rebel, we break down James 5:16 and confront one of the biggest lies people live under: hiding struggles while hoping for healing.
James lays out a powerful progression—confession, prayer, and healing—and shows us that secrecy keeps people spiritually stuck. The things we hide the longest often become the things that control us the deepest. You can look fine on the outside while privately fighting battles nobody knows about, but healing was never designed to grow in darkness.
This episode challenges the culture of isolation and fake spirituality by calling listeners into honesty, community, and alignment with God. We unpack three major truths:
- Reveal what’s real — You can’t heal what you won’t reveal. Secrecy feeds struggle, but confession breaks its grip.
- Connect, don’t conceal — God never designed you to fight alone. Isolation feeds sin, but accountability and prayer bring strength.
- Align to access power — The power of prayer doesn’t come from perfection, but from a surrendered life walking closely with God.
Most people want freedom without exposure, healing without honesty, and breakthrough without surrender. But James makes it clear: healing starts where honesty begins. Jesus didn’t hide your sin—He exposed it and carried it to the cross so you wouldn’t have to live chained to it anymore. Stop hiding. Start healing. Get real, get connected, and get aligned. Because redeemed rebels don’t fake freedom they fight for it in the light.

Welcome \\ Daily Rebel Mission
SPEAKER_00This podcast is for the ones who know they will rescue, but also know they were resent. Saved by grace, sent to live differently. We're not rebelling against God, we're rebelling against everything that keeps us free. Every day, we don't swing our opinions, we sharpen our lives on the word of God, the sword of the Spirit, guiding us, cutting through lives, and leading us one step at a time. We'll talk faith, identity, purpose, leadership, and what it really looks like to follow Jesus in a distracted world. Welcome to the Daily Rebel. Hey, what's up, Redeemed Rebels? Here we go. Uh, we're on episode 62, day two of Pray Like It Matters. And today we're gonna talk about what it means to pray when it's real. So here we go, James
Today's Text: James 5:16
SPEAKER_00chapter 5, verse 16. The text says this Therefore, confess your sins to one another, pray for one another so that you may be healed. And it says this, and I love this part. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. So you ever notice how
What You Hide Holds You
SPEAKER_00the stuff you hide is the stuff that holds you the longest. You don't talk about it, you don't bring it up, you don't let anyone else anyone else see it. You just you just kind of hold it inside, and on the outside you look fine, but underneath you are absolutely 100% stuck. We want healing, but we don't
Tension: Wanting Healing Without Exposure
SPEAKER_00always want exposure, do we? We want freedom, but we don't always want honesty. We want God to move, but we don't always want to open up. But James makes it clear healing doesn't start when you feel better. It starts when you get real. He says, confess,
Confession, Prayer, and Healing
SPEAKER_00pray, and be healed. That's this progression that confession um leads to exposure, prayer leads to dependence, and then healing leads to restoration. You don't you don't skip steps here. So it's not no it's one of those things where if we try to take things and hide it ourselves, um, we will never heal. Again, I've said this before is that if you don't, you can't change what you don't confront. So if there's no confession, there's no really raw or real prayer. If there's no real prayer, there can be no healing in your life.
Healing Starts Where Honesty Begins
SPEAKER_00Healing starts where honesty begins. So here we go. Let me give y'all three
Point 1: Reveal What’s Real
SPEAKER_00points. Number one, you need to reveal what's real. When it comes to prayer, you need to reveal what's real. So he says, confess your sins. So that's both to the Lord and it's to others. You need to bring it into the light. You need to stop hiding it, you need to stop managing it privately. You you cannot it you cannot heal what you won't reveal. Again, I said it earlier, you cannot change what you don't confront, and you cannot heal what you try to hide. And what you hide has power
Why Secrecy Feeds Struggle
SPEAKER_00over you. Because secrecy feels uh secrecy feeds struggle. So what are you hiding? Because if secrecy, secrecy feeds struggle, we need to understand that we are only as sick as our secrets. What do you hold on to right now? What are you hiding? What are you trying to heal on your own without the help of the Lord and others around you? So listen, number one, reveal what's real. That's when prayer is real, is when you're revealing what's real. Listen, secrecy feeds struggle. Here's number two.
Point 2: Connect, Don’t Conceal
SPEAKER_00Number two is this connect, don't conceal. The text says, pray for one another. This is not a solo act, this is community, it's accountability, it's this shared strength. I need other people in my pact praying for me. I need them praying for me when I confess sin or struggle to them
Isolation vs Accountability
SPEAKER_00because it brings this shared strength. Why? Because isolation feeds struggle, connection breaks it. You no longer feel like you're a slave to that secret or that sin. You now feel free because others are carrying it with you. That's what Galatians 6, chapter uh 1 says. It uh
Galatians 6:1-2
SPEAKER_00in verse 2. It says, hey man, restore the brother back uh who's been sinful. And also says, hey, restore the brother. It means to mend. Um, it means it also means to carry one another's burdens that he says in that text. Carry one another's burdens so that it may fulfill the law of the Lord. Listen, you weren't designed to fight alone. We need to pray for one another. We need to carry each other's burdens. We need to help mend each other's bones after we have sinned gratefully. So who knows what you're uh really dealing with? You weren't designed to fight alone. So who knows what you're really dealing with? You have people in your life that you can submit to and surrender to and just confess your secrets to. So, number one, reveal what's real, be honest and raw. Number two, connect, don't conceal. Bring it to accountability, bring it to community. James knew that the the persecuted church were where people that some were being by themselves, he's saying, don't do that. Don't be the kind of person that wanders off because lone wolves get attacked. Um, isolated people are dangerous. So look, reveal what's real, connect, don't conceal. And number
Point 3: Align to Access Power
SPEAKER_00three is align yourself to access power. The text says the prayer of a righteous person, not perfect, not perfection, of a righteous person, a person who is aligned. So this is a person who is submitted and surrendered and walking with the Lord. Alignment with God, you see, produces authority in prayer because you're praying his will. The issue isn't that
Why Prayer Feels Powerless Sometimes
SPEAKER_00prayer doesn't work, it's that we just don't pray sometimes. We don't confess it to the Lord, we don't bring it before other godly people. I got a question. Is your life aligned or is it just words? See, we reveal, we connect, and we align. Jesus didn't hide your
Gospel Shift: Jesus Brought Sin Into the Light
SPEAKER_00sin, he exposed it and he carried it. So you wouldn't have to live in it. You can bring it into the light and actually be free. So ask these questions. What am I hiding? What am I avoiding? Where am I out of alignment with the Lord and with his church? So listen, stop hiding and start healing. Get real, get connected, get aligned. Because listen, redeemed rebels, we don't fake freedom, we
Rebel Close: Fight for Freedom in the Light
SPEAKER_00fight for it in the light through the power of confession, prayers of the church, and alignment in God's will. Amen. Thank you for listening
