Your life is moving in the direction of what you constantly consume.

In Romans 8:5, Paul reveals a powerful truth: your direction is determined by your fixation. Whatever dominates your mind eventually shapes your life. Paul teaches that there are two competing influences constantly fighting for control of our thoughts—the flesh and the Spirit. The question isn't whether you're feeding something; the question is what you're feeding.

In this episode, we unpack three powerful truths from Romans 8:5:

1. What You Feed Will Follow — Your appetite reveals your direction. Whatever you consistently feed will eventually grow stronger and begin shaping your desires, decisions, and lifestyle.

2. Your Mind Is a Battleground — Not every thought deserves residence. The enemy knows that if he can influence your thinking, he can influence your direction. That's why we must learn to take thoughts captive and fill our minds with truth.

3. Your Spirit Needs Nourishment — You cannot starve spiritually and thrive spiritually. A strong spiritual life is built through daily intake of Scripture, prayer, worship, and God's truth.

If you've ever wondered why you feel spiritually weak, distracted, discouraged, or stuck, this episode will challenge you to examine what you're consuming and what is consuming you.

Because whatever feeds your mind eventually forms your life.

Welcome \\ Daily Rebel Mission

SPEAKER_00

This podcast is for the ones who know that we're rescued, but also know they were resent, saved by grace, set to live differently. We're not rebelling against God, we're rebelling against everything that keeps us free. Every day, we don't swing our opinions, we sharpen our lives on the word of God, the sword of the Spirit, guiding us, cutting through lives, and leading us one step at a time. We'll talk faith, identity, purpose, leadership, and what it really looks like to follow Jesus in a distracted world. Welcome to the Daily Rebel. Yo, what up, Daily Rebels? Welcome to a new week. We're on episode 71 in day one of the week, and we're gonna um look at really, really means to set our minds on the spirit this week. So Romans chapter

Romans 8:5

SPEAKER_00

8, verse 5, if you have a Bible, here we go. For those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the spirit have their minds set on the things of the spirit. So again, this week is all about mindset because Romans 8 teaches something powerful. Hear this, write this

Your Direction Is Determined By Your Fixation

SPEAKER_00

down. Your direction is determined by your fixation. Whatever controls your mind is eventually gonna control your life. What is shaping your conscience? And today we're talking about feeding the right mind because whether you realize it or not, you're feeding something every single day. You're either feeding the flesh or you're feeding the spirit. And whatever you feed is gonna grow. So think

Athlete Illustration: What Goes In Comes Out

SPEAKER_00

about athletes for a second. Elite athletes don't accidentally become strong. No matter what the genetics are, their performance is connected to what they consume. Their nutrition and training and habits matter because what goes in them affects what comes out of them. And spiritually, it works the same way. You cannot constantly consume chaos and lust and bitterness and negativity, compromise, or worldly noise, and expect spiritual strength. Did you hear what I just said? Some of y'all are so bone-headed and so thick-headed and so stubborn to think that you're just gonna grow spiritually by consuming everything that actually puts you in darkness. A lot of believers want peace, discernment, and spiritual strength and victory over sin, but their minds are constantly being discipled by the world. No wonder. Hours of scrolling and consuming noise and feeding the flesh, and we wonder, why do I feel spiritually weak? You cannot binge

You Cannot Binge The World And Expect Spiritual Strength

SPEAKER_00

the world and expect spiritual growth or spiritual strength. So listen, Paul says, those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on the things of the flesh. That phrase, set their minds, is

The Meaning Of "Set Their Minds"

SPEAKER_00

huge. In the Greek, it carries the idea again of fixation, this mental occupation, affection, this pursuit, or even continual focus. Paul is not just talking about random thoughts. He's talking about, hey, something is dominating you, something is shaping your thinking, something is occupying your attention. Your mind naturally drifts towards what you feed most.

Flesh vs Spirit Mindsets

SPEAKER_00

And Paul contrasts two mindsets. Again, the flesh and the spirit. The flesh is humanity operating apart from God. The spirit is living under the influence and leadership of God. This text is not merely about behavior, it's about orientation. What direction is your mind leaning? What dominates your thinking? What are you constantly consuming? Because your mind will eventually shape your life. In other words, whatever you feed is gonna grow. So

Point 1: What You Feed Will Follow

SPEAKER_00

let me get three points. Number one, what you feed will follow. Your appetite's gonna reveal your direction. Your life follows your cravings. Whatever you constantly feed eventually becomes stronger. You're gonna feed lust, lust is gonna grow. You feed bitterness, bitterness is gonna grow. You feed anxiety, anxiety is gonna grow. You feed your spirit, and spiritual hunger grows too. Whatever feeds your mind eventually forms your life. What you eat is what you become. Your appetite

Your Appetite Reveals Your Direction

SPEAKER_00

reveals your direction. What are you craving? If all your mind consumes is entertainment, maybe you all you do is say on social media and compare. You look at drama or compromise, your spiritual life will drift toward the flesh. So listen, your strongest cravings reveal what you've been feeding. What's feeding your mind right now? Because eventually, what feeds you leads you. So here's number two. Here's number two. Your

Point 2: Your Mind Is A Battleground

SPEAKER_00

mind is a battleground. Not every thought deserves residence. The enemy understands something. If he can influence your thoughts, he can influence your direction. That's why spiritual warfare often starts in the mind. Thoughts like you'll never change, God's forgotten you, sin will satisfy you, compromise it in a big deal. No, no, no. Listen, your mind is either being

Truth or Lies: What's Occupying Your Mind?

SPEAKER_00

occupied by truth or invaded by lies. Some believers let every thought move in without questioning where it came from. But scripture teaches again, take thoughts captive because not every thought deserves residence again. Unchallenged thoughts

Unchallenged Thoughts Become Established Strongholds

SPEAKER_00

eventually become established strongholds, negative soundtracks that that take you out. So what thoughts have you been entertaining that you should be evicting? I'm gonna ask it again.

What Thoughts Are You Entertaining That You Should Be Evicting?

SPEAKER_00

What thoughts have you been entertaining that you should be evicting? And here's number

Point 3: Your Spirit Needs Nourishment

SPEAKER_00

three. Your spirit needs nourishment. You cannot starve spiritually and thrive spiritually. Your spirit needs nourishment, not occasionally, but daily, because daily maturity does not happen by accident. A starving spirit becomes a weak it becomes very weak, weak against temptation, compromise, discouragement, deception. Because starving

Starving Your Spirit Strengthens Your Flesh

SPEAKER_00

your spirit strengthens your flesh. If the only spiritual food you get is one sermon a week, you're starving. I'm gonna say it again. If the only spiritual food is it you're getting is your pastor taking the fork and feeding you, and you're not feeding yourself, you are starving. Because I don't know about y'all, I don't know if we can survive off one meal a week. This is why we need scripture, prayer, worship, community, and meditation on God's word. Because whatever you meditate on, it expands and influence. Meditation is not emptying your mind, it's filling your mind with truth.

Practical Rhythms For A Healthy Mind

SPEAKER_00

What habits are feeding your spirit right now? Scripture

Scripture Before Screens

SPEAKER_00

before screens. Listen, y'all. Here's some practical rhythm. Scripture before screens, worship over noise, daily meditation, memorization habits, pray scripture slowly. Remember, constant mental uh remove constant mental clutter. So listen, y'all. Jesus didn't just die to forgive your sin.

Jesus Transforms Your Mind

SPEAKER_00

He came to transform your mind because freedom is not only external behavior change, it's internal renewal, new desires, new thinking, new affection, new direction. Listen, if someone examined your attention, your thought life, your intake, and your habits, what would they say is feeding your mind most? Because your life is moving in the direction of what you constantly consume. Feed your spirit, guard your mind, fix your thoughts on truth. Redeemed rebels,
