#95 | God Has The Final Word | Romans 8:33 | The Great 8

One of the deepest desires every human heart carries is the desire to belong.

We all want to know: Do I matter? Am I wanted? Am I enough? So we spend our lives chasing acceptance through success, relationships, performance, popularity, and achievement. But no amount of approval from people can satisfy what only God can settle.

That's why Romans 8:33 begins with one of the most identity-shaping phrases in all of Scripture: "God's elect." Before Paul ever addresses accusations, he reminds believers who they are. Because you'll never walk in confidence until you know whose you are. 

The Greek word eklektos simply means chosen—belonging to God. Paul isn't writing this to create arguments about theology. He's writing it to produce assurance. Your identity isn't rooted in your performance. It's rooted in God's grace. Before you ever reached for Him, He reached for you. Before you ever loved Him, He loved you.

In this episode, we unpack three powerful truths from Romans 8:33:

1. God Chose You — Grace always makes the first move. Your relationship with God didn't begin because you finally got your life together. It began because God pursued you.

2. God Knows You — Nothing about your life has ever surprised God. Every failure, every struggle, every regret was already known, and He still chose to rescue you.

3. God Keeps You — The God who declared you righteous isn't changing His verdict. Your security isn't built on your grip on God, but on His grip on you.

Ultimately, the cross gave you more than forgiveness. Jesus was treated like the guilty one so that, through faith, you could be treated like a son or daughter. The greatest thing about you isn't what you've done.

It's whose you are.

• Today... let God have the final word.

Because you are not defined by what you've done.

You are defined by what Christ has done.

Let's look at the text. Here we go. Who can bring accusation against God's elect? God is the one who justifies. So have you ever replayed an old mistake in your mind? Like you keep playing reruns of something you could wish you could undo, something that still whispers, hey, you're not good enough. You're a failure. God can't use people like you. And maybe no one else is, maybe no one else is accusing you anymore, but you still are. Maybe the enemy keeps reminding of you of your past. Paul knows exactly what that feels like. He asks another courtroom question Is who can bring an accusation against God's elect? And notice he doesn't ask, will accusations come? Because they will. He asks, who can actually successfully make the case? The enemy may

The Enemy Can Raise His Voice But He Cannot Erase God's Verdict

raise his voice, but he cannot reverse God's verdict. Paul is still standing in the courtroom and is saying, hey, first of all, he begins with, there's no condemnation. And now he asks, Who's going to reopen the case? Who's going to overrule God's decision? Who's going to overturn Christ's finished work? And his answer is no one. Heaven doesn't retry the people Jesus already redeemed. So Paul says, Who can be bring accusation? The word accusation is a legal term. It means to bring formal charges to prosecute, to build a case against someone. And Satan is called in scripture, again, the accuser of our brothers and sisters. His strategy has never changed. If he can't steal your salvation, he's going to try to steal your confidence. And then Paul gives the answer. To justify means to declare righteous, to pronounce not guilty, to be accepted because of Christ, not because of your performance, but because of his. The judge has already spoken. And that same judge has justified you. The case is closed.

No Accusation is Greater than God's Declaration

No accusation is greater than God's declaration. I'm going to say it again. No accusation is greater than God's declaration. Let me give you all three points. Number one, accusations will come. So

Point 1: Accusation Will Come

don't be surprised. The enemy loves reminding you of your past. He reminds you of your failures. He's going to constantly bring up your addictions and the worst decisions you ever made, your worst, your darkest moments. But conviction and accusation are not the same. Remember, conviction points you to Jesus, accusation points you away from him. God convicts behavior. The enemy condemns identity. Whose voice have you been listening to lately?

Point 2: Justification Silences the Charges

Number two, justification silences the charges. Again, the verdict is final. That's what Romans 8 is about. Paul doesn't point to your effort, he points to God's declaration. God is the one who justifies. Think about that. The highest judge in the universe has already ruled. No lower court can overturn his verdict. And your past may repas may remember, people may remember, you may remember, but God sees you through the righteousness of his son. And when God justified you, he didn't ignore your sin. He judged it at the cross. Your shame isn't stronger than the cross. Your past isn't greater than grace. Your failures are not louder than forgiveness. Your sin is real, but your savior is greater. What accusation do you need to replace with God's truth today? And number

Point 3: Live From the Verdict

three, live from the verdict. You need to stop defending yourself. So many believers spend their lives trying to prove themselves, trying to earn what Jesus already purchased, trying to silence accusation through performance. And Paul says, Stop that. God already justified you. You don't fight for acceptance, you fight from acceptance. So quit trying to earn a verdict, God has already declared. You don't wake up every morning wondering if your child if you're God's child. You wake up learning how to live like one. At the cross, Jesus took every charge against you, every sin, every failure, every act of rebellion. The innocent one stood in your place. And that's why there's no condemnation. That's why no accusation can ultimately stand. The cross didn't simply cancel your debt, it destroyed the prosecution's case. What accusation keeps replaying in your mind? Now answer it with Romans 8 33. God has justified me. The judge has spoken. The verdict is final. People may accuse you, your past may accuse you, the enemy will accuse you, but none of them have the final word. Because
